Melissa is 3 weeks old!

Sunday, July 8, 2007

Today Melissa turned 3 weeks old! She is doing great! We have started her on medicine for her Cystic Fibrous (CF). She is weighing around 6lb 10oz and is 19in long.

Update on Melissa

At the beginning of the pregnancy with Melissa, I was tested for Cystic Fibrosis (CF). The test came back that I was a carrier. Paul also had to be tested as well. His test came back that he was a carrier. What this meant for us was that Melissa had a 25% chance that she would be born with CF or a 75% chance she would be a carrier or not have it at all.

You maybe asking the question what is CF? I will get to that.

We where sent to a genetic specialist to talk about CF. This is where we got all the good sonogram pictures of Melissa. Dr. Albert was looking for CF in Melissa's lungs and digestive system. He never saw anything, but that didn't mean it wasn't there. The only way we would know if Melissa had CF was to do a DNA test. We could have had a test done during the pregnancy, but there was a risk of loosing Melissa. Paul and I said we would wait until she was born to have her tested.

So here we are today. Melissa does have CF. We met with a team of specialist at Children's Hospital of Dallas today 7/5/07 and learned so much about CF. We do have our hands full, but with God seeing us through this and the support from our family and friends, we will be fine.

Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that
a.. clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections; and
b.. obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food. In the 1950s, few children with cystic fibrosis lived to attend elementary school.

Today, advances in research and medical treatments have further enhanced and extended life for children and adults with CF. Many people with the disease can now expect to live into their 30s, 40s and beyond.

We ask that you go the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation website. http://www.cff.org/ This website is the only one you need to read. There is a lot of false information out there on the Internet.

Also we will be calling on you to help us with the Great Stride walk in September. This helps raise money for the CF Foundation. Thanks for your prayers.

Love,
Paul, Traci and Melissa

Happy 30th Birthday Mom!

Saturday, June 30, 2007

Yesterday was my moms 30th Birthday! I'm glad we are home and I could be here to help celebrate this special day with her. We had some family over for dinner. Daddy went shopping for us and we got mom a pretty necklace. My grandma (Delores) made a great meal for all of us and my moms favorite cake Strawberry!

My mom also had her doctors appointment yesterday and she is doing well. Dr. Lee said she could start driving. Her blood pressure is still up so she still needs to take it easy! I finally got to meet Dr. Lee and we took a picture together.

My Grandma (Delores) had to go back mom today! I was sad to see her go. She has been a great help to my mom and dad. She is great at rocking me to sleep at night so my mom could get her sleep. I love you grandma thanks for everything.

Why was my name a secret?

I am named after my Great Great Aunt Laura Melissa and my Great Grandmother Dorothy Pearl. My mom tells me I'm named after two very important ladies in her life. Here is a picture of me and my Great Great Aunt Laura Melissa holding me at the hospital. My Great Grandmother Dorothy Pearl is no longer with us, but I know she is looking down on me from heaven!

Welcome Melissa Pearl Liberto

Friday, June 22, 2007

Melissa Pearl Liberto was born on June 17, 2007 @ 11:19 am. She weighed 6lb 4oz and was 18 inches long.

On Saturday, June 16, 2007 we arrived at the hospital at 5:30pm. I had been very tired that day, but nothing different from before. Around 5:00pm my water broke. My blood pressure was very high so they gave some magnesium to help lower my blood pressure. I was in labor for 15 hours when the doctor told us that I had preeclampsia and also that Melissa was still to high and hasn't dropped. We had to make a decision to have a C-Section. It was the best for both Melissa and I. With preeclampsia, I have to take blood pressure medicine until it goes away. So I have to make sure I don't stress and get lots of sleep! Yeah right with a newborn that's not going to happen. I'm so blessed that my mom is here to help us out. I was in the hospital from Saturday to Thursday. We got to go home on Thursday, June 21, 2007. I was so happy to say good by to the hospital!
Paul got the best fathers day gift his beautiful baby girl! Here are the pictures everyone has been waiting for! Keep checking the blog, I'm not as fast to post since I'm doing this in between nap time.

People make me laugh!

Tuesday, June 12, 2007

Everyday I hear the question at work, "You're still hear!" It just makes me laugh because when I'm gone they will miss me (I hope). Why do people think you want to hear this also, "You're so big are you sure you not having twins?" Anyways I will post an update tomorrow after my doctors appointment!

Baby Liberto we are ready for you!

Saturday, June 9, 2007

Paul and I had the car seat installed today. The hospital we are having Baby Liberto at had a free car seat check today. We wanted to make sure we had it installed correctly. It's funny driving around with a car seat in back seat. Paul and I have everything ready, and now that the time is getting closer we can't wait!
